Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party. Lauderdale County
Description
This folder contains WATS line summaries, presumably from the Atlanta SNCC office, and cover all states in which volunteers were working during May of 1965. Reports detail shootings and fire bombings of Freedom Schools and Freedom Houses in Indianola, Mississippi, as well as the continued violence and intimidation towards civil rights workers. Some city reports begin to show success in voter registration attempts while other cities remain steadfast in blocking black registration. Of note is the picketing of the Hammermill Paper Plant in Erie, Pennsylvania, when it began building a pulp mill near Selma, Alabama. Also noted are successful and unsuccessful integration attempts at local business and public accomodations.
