Otey's Center (Nashville, Tenn.)
Description
A calendar from 1964 advertising Otey's Center, which included a supermarket, launderette, shoe shop, and a realty company. Flem B. Otey headed the Otey Enterprises firm which was comprised of the various operations highlighted on the calendar. Located at 1801 Jefferson Street, Otey's Grocery was the first African American-owned grocery firm in Nashville. Originally, a small business known as Green's Grocery occupied the Jefferson site. Otey assumed direction of this small store and developed the business into the large Cee-Bee affiliate, Otey's Grocery. Photos of Green's Grocery are also shown on the calendar.
