Biographical entry on Mamie Katherine Phipps Clark, Hot Springs, Arkansas native who was the first African-American Woman to receive a doctorate in psychology from Columbia University. Clark's research with regard to the "separate but equal" doctrine was instrumental in the 1954 case, Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka.The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata.
