SCAR T-5: Mr. Billie Fleming Col, Sound, 29 minutes. Mr. Billie Fleming is interviewed by Dr. Grace Jordan McFadden of the University of S. C. Fleming examines the historical factors which led to "Briggs v. Elliott," the 1952 Clarendon County school desegregation case that was eventually incorporated into Brown v. Board of Education. He discusses the opposition by the white community, and some blacks to the quest for educational reform. Fleming describes the ostracism directed towards supporters of the suit including loss of employment and physical attacks.
