Description
This payroll indicates that Captain S. Y. Caldwell, Assistant Quartermaster, employed certain persons at Tunnel Hill, Georgia, during February 1864. C. B. Abernathy provided a "Negro Boy" slave whose name was not given who worked as a teamster driving wagons. It also indicates that the slave’s employment began in March 1863, and that Abernathy was owed payment for the period June 30, 1863, to February 29, 1864.
