The number "16" is written in pencil on left side of page.John Greenleaf Whittier writes to Amos A. Phelps regarding an introduction of Samuel D. Hastings who has "been a faithful and true advocate of our cause." He writes of troubles with the Presbyterians: "The vials of Presbyterian wraths are filling upon the heads of our "Union" Abolitionists. Friend Hastings will tell thee the whole story."
