Governor's Proclamations, 1949-1956Arranged chronologically by date of proclamation. The microfilm covers the period through 1956. Proclamations issued by Pennsylvania Governors. Subjects for the Mifflin administration (1791-1799 period) include canals, quarantines for contagion, the Whiskey Rebellion, quarantine of vessels arriving from the West Indies and arson. For the McKean administration (1799-1808) subjects include public arms, the murder of Peter Bechbucher and the apprehension of Jacob Brenneman. For the Snyder administration (1808-1817) there is a proclamation concerning the election of Dr. Adam Seybert. For the Wolf administration (1834-1835) subjects include apprehension of Lucretia Chapman, a reward for apprehending those who set fire to property at Port Carbon, a reward for apprehending the murderer of Captain William Donnelley, a reward for the person who set fire to the woolen factory at Economy, a reward for apprehending the person who robbed a Philadelphia bank, and reward for apprehension of the person who burned Vernon Academy. More recent proclamations (1978 onward) include such subjects as George Washington Carver Day, Aaym Solomon Day, Martin Luther King Day, YMCA Week, American History Month, Energy Education Week, Adult Education Month, Jimmy Stewart Day, Historic Preservation Month, Environmental Education Week, Women’s History Week, and proclamations of Extreme Emergency. Of note are proclamations announcing constitutional amendments on filling vacancies, popular election of the Attorney General, tax reform, and the creation of a Judicial Conduct Board.
