This recording opens with an introduction of the program by Boyd Lewis. The first segment, which begins at 1:33, is a feature about the controversy surrounding the construction of the Presidential Parkway to link downtown Atlanta with Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum. The program features audio excerpts from Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young; Jimmy Carter; Dan Lee, Chief of Staff for Jimmy Carter; Atlanta City Councilman Bill Campbell; Sally Harbaugh, President of the Olmstead Society of Atlanta; architect Paul Muldower, and Joe Brolet of CAUTION. The second segment, which begins at 14:56, is a Southwind feature that aired in March of 1983 about The first segment, which begins at 1:30, is a feature about the Townsend Prize given for Georgia's best novelist. The award was named for the former editor of Atlanta Magazine, Jim Townsend. The program features audio excerpts from columnist Celestine Sibley; author Pat Conroy; publicist George Goodwin, and author Alice Walker, who reads passages from The Color Purple.The program ends with a sign off by Boyd Lewis."Southwind" was a radio program about the issues, people, and culture of the South that aired on WABE-FM, Atlanta's public radio station. The series, which aired from 1980 to 1987, was conceived, produced, and reported by journalist Boyd Lewis.
