Holograph, signed.Title devised by cataloger.On verso, the delivery address is "Rev. A. A. Phelps, Boston, Mass."In his reply to Amos A. Phelps’s letter appointing him as a Vice President of the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society, Appleton Howe argues for including women in the business meetings of the Society. In spite of his belief in women's rights he accepts the position, because of his belief against “no government theory.”
