These items are images from digital and paper sources that were gathered for the Toledo Women Lawyers History Project (TWLHP). The material in this folder focuses on the career of Judge Vernelis Armstrong, who became the first woman and the first African American to be appointed Magistrate Judge of the United States District Court, Northern District, Western Division, in 1994. She maintained that postion for two terms, retiring in 2010, but continued to work on a volunteer basis until 2015. Prior to her judgeship, she served for fifteen years as an Assitant United States Attorney. Images in this folder include a portrait, a document honoring her service in the Congressional Record, and newspaper articles.
