Holograph, signed.Title devised by cataloger.Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) manuscript composed in black ink on white paper. There is a purple stamp with the words "Phelps MSS" in the top right corner of the letter.Edward Royall Tyler writes to Amos A. Phelps about his resignation from the Anti-Slavery Society agency after many years of service and his hopes of "retirement and quiet of a parish." He requests Phelps' assistance in recommending any vacant parishes and confesses that Phelps may be surprised by his request: "the truth is, that some of my former "helps" have failed me, feeling aggrieved by my course on the slavery question, and I apprehend it will be more difficult than formerly, to obtain an introduction into vacat societies."
