Dorothy Freyer, Michael Premo

Description

Dorothy Freyer was born in 1916 in Philadelphia, PA. Her mother, Jenny Carpenter, was born in Greensboro, NC and was a dietician. Her father, John Tillman, was born in Philadelphia: he was a veteran of WWI and worked as a longshoreman. As a child, Dorothy and her parents lived in West Philadelphia. She moved to Brooklyn when she was a teenager, eventually graduating from Girls High School. She had hoped to train as a dietician, like her mother, but ended up marrying as soon as she graduated from high school. She was married three times: her first husband died, and she divorced her second. She and her first husband did not have children because Dorothy developed a tumor and was unable to bear children. They never adopted, because her first husband did not want to. Her first husband died of a ruptured hernia. Although she was raised a Catholic, Dorothy is currently a member of Berean Baptist Church. This interview does not contain much additional information, because Dorothy tends to repeat herself.
