View of Atlanta Vice Mayor Maynard Jackson (left) and Alderman Marvin Arrington (right) at a meeting of the Atlanta Board of Alderman at Atlanta City Hall in downtown Atlanta, Georgia.Maynard Jackson was elected as the first African American mayor of Atlanta, Georgia in 1974. He served three terms, two from 1974-1982 and another from 1990-1994. During his time in office he helped to remodel Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport, which was renamed as Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport after his death in 2003.
