Description

Amnesty oath for John A. Winfrey of Fayette County, Tennessee. The papers are signed by Charles W. Johnston, U. S. Circuit Court Commissioner. Winfrey served in Co. D, 6th Tenn. Infantry, CSA. He was married to Matilda (Mattie) Cary Sweeny. The oath says that the amnestied Confederate "will abide by and faithfully support all Laws and Proclamations which have been made during the existing Rebellion, with reference to Emancipation of Slaves."
