Photograph of (L-R) Walter Jerrick, Romare Bearden, and Father John Logan at a Pyramid Club Art Exhibition. Bearden graduated with a degree in education from New York University and in the mid-1930s became a weekly editorial cartoonist for the Baltimore Afro-American. He was a member of the Harlem Artists Guild and in 1964 became the first art director of the Harlem Cultural Council. He has numerous publications on Art including his 1993 "A History of African American Artists: From 1792 to the Present" (published posthumously). His art work is featured in a number of important collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Jerrick, a physician , founded the all Black male Pyramid Club in 1937. Its mission was to foster the “cultural, civic, and social advancement of Negroes in Philadelphia.” In 1941 Dr. Jerrick headed the $20,000 drive for the Home for Aged and Infirm Colored Persons.
