Klink's Wagon Shop (1850's-1860's). Illinois had many slaves passing through the state before the Civil War on their way to Canada. St. Charles was not considered as a part of the "Underground Railroad" system, but St. Charles did have two stations which were used to help slaves on to Canada. One station was in the basement of Klink's Wagon and Carriage Shop (pictured above as it appeared at that time) on the southwest corner of Third and Main St...
