Holograph, signed.Title devised by cataloger.On verso, the delivery address is "Rev. Amos A. Phelps, Pastor of Pine Street Church, Boston, Mass."In this letter to Amos A. Phelps, Evan Lewis says he subscribes to abolitionism and approves the proposed usage of his name for the cause. He says ministers around him generally advocate colonization. He comments upon the large gap that exists between those who advocate universal emancipation and colonization. He apologizes for not being able to do much in aid of the cause of slavery due to poor health.
