Armstrong Junior College (Savannah, Ga.)

Description

The Living in Savannah scrapbook project was designed to increase awareness of the urban poverty in Savannah during 1940 and 1941. Scrapbook volume one contains 300 photographs which focus on housing conditions in Savannah, particularly on those of the lower class. The photographs were taken in 1939-40 by Armstrong Junior College students for a Contemporary Georgia course, which included the study of the economic, social, and political problems of Georgia. Photographs include the original captions given by the students, and the photographers are credited on the appropriate pages. Two students, Ruth Christiansen and Elise Wortsman, were responsible for arranging the scrapbooks.
