Holograph, signed.Title devised by cataloger. On verso, the letter is addressed to "Wm Lloyd Garrison Boston."Charles Simmons writes to William Lloyd Garrison sending him the "the first draft of a bible argument on the subject of non-resistance." Simmons asks Garrison to review it, along with other members of the Executive Committee of the New England Non-Resistance Society, and determine "whether or not it has any strength & pertinence, & is worth publication." He also says he would like to add his name to the Declaration of Sentiments of the Society but he wishes first to consider whether he will be "able to bear so much present reproach & future honor as will be the inheritance of those who sign it." Simmons then reports that he is ending his ministry at Hebronville and he is unsure if he will be able "to obtain another settlement as a preacher in this region of clerical domination."
