Description

Members of the Allen Life Guards, a segregated boy scout troop. This photo was taken in a brickyard near Virginia Avenue in Mobile, Alabama, prior to the group's departure for Tuskegee Institute and Washington, D.C. Clarence Mathews, who was John Cochrane's driver, mortgaged his home in order to establish the guards, and was their guardmaster. Most of the people in the image have been identified.
