Civic Magazine covers Savannah's summer lunch program for children, an initiative to help ensure that children are receiving healthy lunches even when school is not in session. Mayor Floyd Adams, Jr. speaks at a lunch giveaway about the goals for the program as well as prizes that the participants can win to entice them to eat their lunches. Leisure Services employee Barry Baker talks about the administration of the program and how it will ensure that children get the lunches they need. Program Coordinator Suzanne Morrison talks about the prize selection for the program and her hopes for the summer lunch initiative. Segment two: Fire Prevention Grant, 5:35-11:56. Savannah Fire and Emergency Services (SFES) received a fire prevention grant from Georgia's Division of Public Health, to aid in fire prevention education and the installation of smoke alarms in high risk structures. Speakers at the acceptance ceremony include SFES Public Information Officer Darlene Tucillo, Georgia Division of Public Health representative Steve Davidson, Mayor Floyd Adams, Jr., Savannah Fire Chief Paul Taylor, and Beth Larrimore of the Savannah Speech and Hearing Center. Segment three: National Conference of Black Mayors award scholarship program, 11:56-14:21. Felix Tuft, a local Jenkins High School student, was awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the National Conference of Black Mayors. Tuft was awarded the scholarship from a pool of over 500 applicants.
