Description

This school desegregation case which originated in 1947 was combined with four other similar cases before the Supreme Court in the famous ruling entitled Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas, et al, 1954. A three judge panel heard the district case. Judge Waties Waring wrote a dissenting opinion which foreshadows the arguments used by the Supreme Court in overthrowing the "separate but equal" doctrine which had prevailed since 1896 and Plessy v. Ferguson.
