Description

A Douglass autograph and a letter from Douglass to Pinckney Benton Stewart Pinchback, 1875 July 16, mentioning a meeting to be held as a preliminary to the Republican National Convention of 1876. Douglass writes, "With the immense political power now in our hands, if wisely exercised, the colored people of this country need not fail to have all their rights respected nor fail to secure a respectable and proportionate representation both in the states and in the nation."
