Harvey Gantt delivers a campaign speech in Asheville a day before the election. He is first introduced by a speaker. Gantt tells the crowd that he is moved by students who came to the airport to greet him and thanks specific people who helped with his campaign. Gantt says that he values education; will work to make health care affordable; cares about working families and their jobs; care about seniors; wants to protect Medicare, Social Security, Medicaid, and the environment; and supports public schools. He says that he is going to Washington to be on the people's side, not the side of special interests, and trusts that voters will make the right decision. At around 10:08 in the recording, a new speech begins. Harvey Gantt delivers a campaign speech in Greensboro. He says that voters want a senator who is interested working for children of North Carolina, who understands challenges at work and protects pensions. Gantt says that he wants to raise the minimum wage, cares about seniors, protect Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, fully fund Head Start, protect student loans, make health insurance 100% deductible, and supports equal pay for equal work. Gantt criticizes his opponent, Jesse Helms, for wanting to shut down the Department of Education, voting to cut Medicare and Social Security, and giving tax breaks to companies.
