It is postmarked in Hardwick, Vt. on May [6?].Kiah Bayley writes to Amos A. Phelps that he is enclosing $5 for the West India Mission. Mentioning the general lack of knowledge about the Union Missionary Society among people in Vermont, including himself, Bayley discusses the need for publicizing the basic facts about the society. He then discusses the controversy between Phelps and C. E. Stowe. He says he wrote a protest based on Phelps's report of Stowe's statement, but now wonders whether he reacted prematurely. He says he wishes for more information about the incidence and requests that Phelps give more facts about the case, including the circumstances and the words used.
