Chamblee, Alvin Del

Description

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Alvin Del Chamblee studied art formally with the late Paul Glemaker and more recently with the well-known Midwestern artist Paul Kramer. Since 1966, when his "formal" art career began, he has had more than twenty one-man shows and twenty-five group shows. His work was included in the Atlanta University Black Artists Exhibition; the Carnegie Institute Master Black Artists Series and Lectures; a Northern States Power Co. exhibit of ten Minnesota artists; exhibits at the Minnesota State Fair, the University of Minnesota, and Paul Larson Galleries; the Courage Center Images of Minnesota Exhibit 1988; and the Black History Exhibit of Three Artists at Lakewood Community College in 1990. His work is now in public and private collections including the Minnesota Historical Society, the United States Forestry Museum Collection in Asheville, North Carolina, and the Southern Fellowships Fund and Foundation in Atlanta, Georgia. Chamblee was a member of the Twin Cities area's Paul Kramer Studio Group from 1966 until 1973, when the group evolved into the Old Town Artists, to which he currently belongs.
