Description
Records collected by the Mississippi Sovereignty Commission on John Hewlett. Hewlett was a member of the Black Panther Party and participated in the 1966 James Meredith March in Mississippi. The file contains photocopied photographs from the 1966 march as well as from a speech made by Hewlett at the University of California, Berkley Vietnam Day Committee's first anniversary, a newspaper advertisement of a speech given by Hewlett in New York, an article mentioning Hewlett and his participation with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) as well as a summary of his file written in August, 1966 by Erle Johnston, Jr., director of the Sovereignty Commission.The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata.
