Reevin, Sam E

Description

Letter from Sam E. Reevin, manager and treasurer of Theatre Owners Booking Association (T.O.B.A.), a Tennessee-based booking agency from 1920 to the 1930s for African American vaudeville acts, to Charles Henry Douglass, Jr., African American entrepreneur and owner of the Douglass Theatre, dated October 14, 1925, regarding a possible appearance by Charles Anderson at the Douglass Theatre. Reevin informs Douglass that he will arrange for Charles Anderson to play in Macon, Georgia, even though Anderson seems to avoid going to Macon. He reminds Douglass that Anderson disappointed him previously. Reevin explains that he is bringing Anderson to Chattanooga, possibly to the Liberty Theatre, the week of October 26 and says that he will work to convince Anderson to play in Macon. He asserts that since Anderson will play Birmingham, Alabama, possibly at the Frolic Theatre, during the week of November 2, Douglass can expect him the week of November 9, as Reevin promises do his utmost to get Anderson to accept the engagement in Macon. Reevin says he will let Douglass know if Anderson accepts the engagement, and will advise Douglass of other acts he can send to complete the bill for that week, as the acts that are playing with Anderson in Birmingham have already played for Douglass.Digital image and encoded transcription of an original manuscript, scanned, transcribed and encoded by the Digital Library of Georgia in 2005, as part of Georgia HomePLACE.
