Description
Connie and David begin the interview discussing his family background and upbringing, and David’s presence at the inauguration of Barack Obama. They proceed to reflect on David’s experiences growing up in the midst of the Civil Rights Movement, and how being black and the experiences of older blacks shaped his identity as a young person. Connie and David then discuss David’s education background as well as his career setbacks and successes, the presence of blacks in TV and film, and the importance of Barack Obama’s presidency to race relations in America. They proceed to talk about David’s writing career and his possible future projects. Connie closes the interview requesting an autograph for her copy of the book, and gives David a small gift.
