Description

Five-page letter written from John S. Brien in Nashville, Tennessee, to R. M. C[ornin], Esq. in Cincinnati, Ohio. The author expresses his views on secession, the Union, and Southern Rights as well as his hope for compromise. Says Brien, " I sincerely fear that the preservation of the Union is beyond the reach of all the conservative element of the country." He went on to declare that "there are many men in the South who are still striving to save the Union, and I am one of them."2671288http://tennessee.gov/tsla/history/manuscripts/findingaids/267.pdf
