Description

Photograph taken looking north at the east side of the 200 block North Caroline Street from its intersection with East Lexington Street in Baltimore, Maryland. This street consists mostly of two- and three-story brick row houses. In a one-story building on the near corner at number 201 North Caroline is the Caroline Auto Service, an automobile repair shop where cars also are sold. On the wall on the house next to and above the shop is a painted sign advertising Arrow beer. A truck and two cars are parked along the street. At the end of the block on the next corner at number 301 North Caroline is Collin's Restaurant, a store with numerous advertisements on its outer wall, including one for Malone's Candy Factory Retail No. 1 (see also mdaa212). Tracks are embedded in the cobblestone roadway, and electric lines for streetcars are suspended above the center of the street. Many African Americans adults and children are walking along the sidewalk or crossing the street. Street lights are located on the sidewalk, and a lone tree grows in the middle of the block.
