View
@ Los Angeles Public Library

Description

Charlie Chaplin, left, grim and unsmiling, is shown being fingerprinted by Deputy United States Marshal George Rossini as the white-haired film comedian surrendered on white slave and conspiracy charges on February 14, 1944. Chaplin, who has faced thousands of cameras during his long screen career, at first protested against the fingerprint photographs but later reluctantly posed for the pictures. Chaplin's attorney, Jerry Giesler, is seen behind Rossini.
