Dorsey, Walter Marriott, Jane McKim

Description

Bill of sale dated March 25, 1858 for a Negro slave named Julia Ann and her three children sold by Jane McKim Marriott of Baltimore City, Maryland to Walter Dorsey of Howard County, Maryland. The sale is in the amount of $500. Witnessed by Justice of the Peace Danl. E. (Daniel E.) Myers on March 25 (who is certified by clerk of the Superior Court of Baltimore City Geo. E. (George E.) Sangston on the same day) and recorded by Howard County clerk W. W. Watkins on April 15, the document identifies Julian Ann as being age about 24 years with three children and, based on a previous bill of sale from Isaac C. Anderson to Jane McKim Marriott (Howard County chattel records liber E. P. H. number 2 folio 511), sets her term of service to last until January 1, 1868. (Editor's note: Why terms of service for the children are not specified is not known.)
