Description

Flute Rice was born on June 1, 1930, the youngest of fouteen children in Huntsville, Alabama. He came to Toledo to stay with an older sister and finished his early schooling at Gunckel. He returned to the south to finish high school and college. After serving in the military, he returned to Toledo where he held a variety of jobs including the principalship of Scott High School and the Co-coordinator of the Adult Education for Toledo Public Schools. His interview gives insight into the history of Scott High School during the most publicized years of the Civil Rights Movement. Mr. Rice died on August 13, 2006 in Toledo.
