Hotel property at 4611 Compton Avenue purchased to be used as a "heaven, " or "Peace Mission and Truth Center" for Father Divine's International Peace Mission movement. Father Divine, also known as Reverend M.J. Divine was a controversial African American spiritual leader from 1907-1965. He founded the International Peace Mission movement and claimed to be GodA sign advertising the expansion of Father Divine's "heaven," a converted hotel used as a Peace Mission and Truth CenterMembers of Father Divine's Peace Missions were given inexpensive room and board, employment, and encouragement to reform their lives in accordance with Father Divine's teachings
