Beverly Edmond discusses her 21-month tenure as Interim Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at the University of Montana [UM]. She describes her educational background which includes a master’s degree in Public Administration and a Ph.D. in Political Science with a concentration in Public Administration. Edmond talks about her career as a high-level administrator at several higher-education institutions, as well as a federal government employee, and how she utilized this collective work experience in her role as Interim Provost at UM. Edmond discusses spearheading different task forces at UM, particularly Academic Program and Administrative Services Prioritization [APASP], to help address UM’s budget crisis and find ways to increase efficiency. She also elaborates on the challenges she has faced living and working in Missoula, Montana, as a woman of color, and shares her personal thoughts on the importance of cultivating diversity at an academic institution.
