The 1908 State Theatre in Bay City, Michigan, originally the Bijou, was built in 1908 during the booming lumbering era in Michigan as ne of many vaudeville and burlesque houses in town. It was renovated in 1930 to resemble a Mayan pyramid by renowned architect C. Howard Crane. A new marquee designed by Eric E. Larsen, incorporating a retro Mayan Indian headdress, was part of another retrofit of the theater as a single-screen movie house in 2008
