Description

Daniel Kruidenier came to Springfield College, at the time known as the International YMCA College, September 14, 1914. He joined the Canadian 171 Overseas Battalion during World War I. He was dropped from the college on May 11, 1916 for charges of larceny.Springfield and Army played a football against one another on November 18, 1916 at West Point. Army won the game 17-2. The game had a controversy race relations issue. Army would not let James Gayle (Class of 1918) play and he had to sit on the bench because he was black. He also mentions the football game against West Point and his thoughts on the racial discrimination that occurred there.
