Description

This article announces that the Montgomery city council has adopted an ordinance to segregate street cars: "...all street railroads operated in the City of Montgomery and its police jurisdiction shall provide separate accommodations for white people and negroes on said street railroads by requiring the conductor or other employe [sic] in charge of said car, or cars, to assign passengers to seats on the cars under their charge in such a manner as to separate the white people from the negroes when there are both white people and negroes on the same car." African American nurses of white children and patients would be allowed to sit with their charges, and conductors would be "invested with the police power of a police officer" to enforce the rules.
