Video clip of high jumper Alice Coachman speaking about her experience at the 1948 Olympic Games in London, England. She describes her coach as a demanding, unreasonable woman who did not agree with Coachman's policy of refraining from jumping the day before a competition. Coachman then describes the meet. She notes that, after praying, she entered the meet and had no problems other than during her final jump.Few athletes have dominated a sport as thoroughly as Alice Coachman dominated the high jump. Named to five All-American teams, she won a gold medal in the 1948 Olympics, becoming the first African American woman to do so. She has been inducted into eight halls of fame.
