Holograph, signed.Title devised by cataloger.On verso, the letter is addressed to "Samuel May Jr. Leicester, Mass." and it is postmarked with an orange, circular stamp reading, "Canterbury Conn. Sept."C.C. Burleigh writes to Samuel May informing him that he does "not feel at liberty to engage to give my whole time to laboring with the Mass[achusetts Anti-Slavery] Society this fall" as he has promised to work with the Rhode Island Anti-Slavery Society and lecture on their behalf. Burleigh says that he he can continue working with May and the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society as he has been, but "shall try to give you timely notice, however, of my beginning in R.I., as soon as I know when it will be." Burleigh also says he will try to attend the Charlton and Webster meetings on the 22 and 29 of September. He then discusses his "compensation for my tour on the Cape" and suggests that he should be paid for "the whole time I was out, as so much time of regular service at a weekly salary, - at whatever rate per week the Committee think right to allow."
