Holograph, signed.Title devised by cataloger.Encased in a protective cover.Lewis Tappan, taking the role of a few people in the office presently out of town, writes to Amos A. Phelps regarding a number of subjects pertinent to the American Anti-Slavery Society: Mr. Cornish, who was appointed by the Executive Committee as a delegate to the Maine Convention, is unable to attend it; although some compromises may be needed in the Maine Convention, the fundamental principles should not be given up; Mr. Birney decided to devote himself to the antislavery cause; T.D. Weld has been appointed an agent; Dr. Beecher is on his way back to Ohio to resolve the situation at the Lane Seminary.
