Stafford founded the Free for All Missionary Baptist Church in 1955. The church, under Stafford's leadership, owned and operated two nightclubs in downtown Atlanta, Georgia in the early 1970s: Soul Expedition in Underground Atlanta and the Soul at the Top of Peachtree atop the Bank of Georgia Building.
