Hosted by Robbyn Fuller. Segment one: Olympic Beautification, 0:00-9:24. Civic Magazine covers the Olympic Beautification Project, a $6 million joint effort between the city of Savannah, Chatham County, other municipalities, neighborhood groups, and civic organizations to prepare the city to host the sailing and beach volleyball events for the 1996 Summer Olympic games. The project committee, chaired by Alderman Elizabeth Sheehan, was formed about two years ago and many aspects of their project are already underway. Interviewees on the project are Alderman Sheehan, Georgia Senator Tom Coleman, Jr., Preservation Officer Beth Reiter, Alderman Gwen Goodman, and Susie Myers of the Beautification Committee. Segment two: American Transcontinental Trailride, 9:24-17:45. The Savannah Police Department Mounted Patrol participates in in its first ever transcontinental trail ride, escorting horseback riders on an ocean-to-ocean excursion. Civic Magazine covers the send-off ceremony for the ride, as the participants prepare to head for the Pacific Ocean. Interviewees at the ceremony include Mayor Susan Weiner and Tom Seay of Transcontinental Trailride. Segment three: Martin Luther King parade, 17:45-22:34. Civic Magazine covers the 16th annual Martin Luther King Day Parade in Savannah. The Grand Marshal for this year's parade is Alderman David Jones, who in an interview talks about how as a police officer he had served as security for Dr. King in Savannah and met him twice.
