YMCA of Greater New York. Uptown Branch

Description

This folder contains photographs from the New York Uptown Branch YMCA. The Uptown Branch of the YMCA of Greater New York was formed in 1933 as a replacement for the old Harlem Branch on 125th Street, which had closed in 1929. Though the branch primarily served White residents in its earliest days, as the neighborhood demographics shifted the branch served primarily African American, Caribbean, and Latino communities. The branch emphasized programs for youth and children and in later years was especially strong in developing after-school and day camp programs. The branch ceased operations in 1986. This folder contains various photographs of children's activities.
