Photograph was edited for publication purposes.Photograph caption dated May 22, 1963 reads, "Malcolm X, in light color suit and shirt, wearing glasses, profile and full face, talks to defense lawyer, Earl Broady, right, in dark suit at recess of Muslim trial. Malcolm X is second in command of Muslim cult and has been a frequent spectator at trial." 14 Black Muslims were charged with felony assault and resisting officers with force during a riot in which one Muslim man was killed and six people were injured. In the end, the jury determined that 9 of the 14 men were guilty of the charges.
