Description

Collected by: Deanna Moore Transcribed by: Doug Haynie Arkansas Folklore Class Sung by: R.K. Moore Benton, Arkansas November 26, 1960 Reel 381; Item 24 A Negro Expression "Then one time while we were working about two miles out of town they liked about fifteen minutes finishing the job, when noon time came. The foreman didn't want to quit just at that time, he wanted to finish the job then move to another one. So when all the shistles, factory whistles, blew in town at twelve O'clock the foreman made no mention. The negroes kept working. About ten minutes after twelve one of the negroes raired up-- didn't want to question anybody—-he only made the statement, "Must a been a fire in town while ago." (My father, Mr. Robert Kennon Moore, worked on the railroad for his father some. Ana it was during one of the summers between terms at college that he heard this.)
