View of two unidentified employees of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad.Kentucky was granted a charter in 1850 for the creation of a railroad running from Louisville, Kentucky to the state line in order to connect to Nashville, Tennessee. The Louisville to Nashville Line was completed in 1859. In 1957 the line was merged with the Chattanooga & St. Louis Railway, and in 1969 the line was again merged, this time with the portion of the Chicago & Eastern Illinois Railroad that ran between Evansville, Indiana and Chicago, Illinois. In 1971 the Seaboard Coastline Railroad bought out the Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company, and in 1986 the Seaboard Coastline Railroad became CSX Transportation, which is still under operation.
