@ Tennesse State Library and Archives

Talley, James

Newspaper article from a later edition of the Sunday morning Nashville Tennessean dated Feb. 28, 1960. The revised and updated article chronicles incidents that occurred and the subsequent arrest of students during a sit-down strike at three downtown stores - Walgreen's, Woolworth's, and McClellan's - in protest of lunch counter segregation. Photos of demonstrators include Fisk University student leader, Paul LaPrad who was attacked during the demonstration. The account also includes quotes from student leaders of the "passive resistance movement," Luther Harris and Diane Nash.
