Encyclopedia article about David Satcher, the sixteenth surgeon general of the United States, who spent much of his career as a physician, scholar, and administrator in Georgia. He attended Morehouse College in Atlanta and Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where he received the M.D. and Ph.D. Satcher has worked in various capacities with the Morehouse School of Medicine, the University of California at Los Angeles School of Medicine and Public Health, Meharry Medical College in Nashville, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, American College of Preventive Medicine, and the American College of Physicians.The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata.
